Why fabric identification matters more than the cleaner
Most upholstery damage doesn't come from dirt, it comes from the wrong cleaning method. Cotton and linen love hot water extraction. Microfibre tolerates moisture but needs gentle agitation to avoid water-marks. Velvet has to be brushed in one direction during cleaning or the pile lays flat in patches. Leather wants a dedicated leather cleaner, not anything with water as the primary solvent.
Every piece carries a small fabric-care code under the cushion (W, S, WS or X). We start there, then confirm with a hidden spot test before we touch the visible fabric.
What hot water extraction does to a sofa
The same principle as carpet cleaning: a hot pre-conditioner breaks the bond between dirt and fibre, then a high-pressure rinse and powerful suction pull both back out. Body oils, food residue, dust mites and pet dander all come up at once.
The difference with upholstery is dwell time and water volume, we use less water and let the solution work longer to avoid over-wetting the foam underneath. Done right, you can sit on the sofa within 2โ4 hours.
How often should upholstery be cleaned?
Sofas in daily use should be cleaned every 12โ18 months. Dining chairs every 12 months (food spills are inevitable). Mattresses every 6โ12 months, they collect a surprising amount of body oil, dead skin and dust mites.
If anyone in the house has allergies, asthma or eczema, lean toward the more frequent end. Upholstery is one of the largest reservoirs of allergens in most homes.
What we do differently from other GTA upholstery cleaners
We don't use a one-size-fits-all approach. The fabric identification happens before we open a bottle of cleaner. Plant-based products mean no chemical smell lingering for a week. And every job is done by Adam personally, no rotating crew with rotating training.
If a stain doesn't lift, we don't pretend it did. We tell you up front whether it's coming out, partially lifting, or staying. That's how you build a reputation that actually earns 120+ five-star reviews.
