Spice stains are a chemistry problem, not a scrubbing problem
Scarborough is one of the most culturally diverse parts of the GTA, and the kitchens reflect that. Real cooking, South Asian, East African, Caribbean, Sri Lankan, uses turmeric, paprika, chai, garam masala, cumin and saffron, and the pigments in those spices behave very differently from a typical North American food spill. Turmeric in particular contains curcumin, which binds chemically with the polypropylene in most synthetic carpet. Most generic carpet cleaners can't get it out, which is why we get a lot of "the last cleaner said it was permanent" calls from Scarborough.
The right method is a UV-light dwell step that breaks the curcumin bond, followed by a targeted hot-water extraction at the right pH. Most fresh turmeric stains lift cleanly. Old, set turmeric usually lightens significantly even when it doesn't fully disappear, and we're honest about that before we start.
Older bungalows in Birch Cliff, Cliffside and Bendale
A lot of Scarborough's housing stock is post-war one-storey on a slab, Birch Cliff, Cliffside, Bendale especially. The carpet in these homes is often old wall-to-wall on a jute backing, which doesn't tolerate aggressive water pressure or alkaline cleaning solutions. We adjust the truck unit's pressure down, switch to pH-neutral chemistry, and shorten dwell time so the jute doesn't soak through. The carpet still gets a deep extraction, just one calibrated for the house it's in.
Multigenerational homes need a different approach
A lot of our Scarborough clients live in true multigenerational households, three generations, often with elderly parents and small kids in the same house. That changes two things: chemistry has to be safer than the box-store baseline, and dry time can't be overnight. Our plant-based, fragrance-free products are safe around seniors and kids within an hour, and our extraction leaves the carpet walkable in 4β6 hours so the household isn't displaced.
What Scarborough clients tell us
The compliments we hear most often are "you got the turmeric out", "no chemical smell at all" and "finally a cleaner who didn't try to upsell my mother." Those are deliberate. Real local stain expertise. Pet- and elder-safe chemistry. And honest pricing, quoted by the same person who shows up to clean.
